Changes in Broken Unity 4

This has been the longest break between tournaments, since we switched over to BF2. With this break I was able to iron out a lot of bugs, rewrite a lot of code, and actually quality test all of the new changes before the next tournament started. Probably the most important thing I gained was that I did not have to rush.

Past tournaments have had lots of rushes to finish up all of the changes before the next tournament. Usually there is a one month break between them, and while I try to start on changes for the next tournament before the break, it is difficult to work on new content and fix old at the same time. There is also the factor of school, which takes up a lot of my time, and I cannot dedicate a lot to this, over school.

So, now that you know the background, here are the changes:

Broken Unity Mod 1.3 Changelog:

+ General
  - The Battle Engine has been rewritten
  - Infiltration mode removed
  + Practice mode added
    - This mode includes all vehicles for practice purposes

+ Kits
  - AT rockets no longer follow the players view and now have an arc over long
      distances
  - The AT class has been removed
  + Engineer
    + Level 1
      - Removed a phantom wrench
    + Level 2
      - Removed handgrenade
      - Added AT mine
    + Level 3
      - Removed handgrenade
      - Added AT mine
    + Level 4
      - Added Eryx (AA)/SRAW (AT)
    + Level 5
      - Removed Repair Field
      - Added Eryx (AA)/SRAW (AT)
  + Support
    - Support can now only have one stationary weapon alive at a time
    - Support AA stationary weapon now has an AA gattling cannon instead of missiles
    - Support AT stationary weapon no longer follows the players view, and has an arc
      over long distances

+ Vehicles
    - Plane wrecks now leave a trail of smoke.
    + Tanks
      + M1A2 (Level3)
        - Armor HP increased by 25%
      + Leopard 2A6 (Level 3)
        - Engine speed increased by 100%
      + Challenger 2 (Level 4)
        - Engine speed reduced by more than 1/2
        - Removed machine gun from first seat
        - Turret turn speed has been drastically reduced
        - Shell damage radius increased
        - Shell damage doubled
        - Armor HP increased by 50%
    + Attack Helis
      + Apache and Hind
        - Increased health 15%
    + Transport Helis
      + Level 2 Helis
        - Miniguns have been removed

+ Commander
    - Removed the scan ability from Commander Control
    - Cannot spot from the commander menu anymore


Rule and out of Game Changes:

- Research is now based on hitting a point limit for each item, instead of chance
- Weekday/Infiltration has been removed
-- Teams can now choose to have a normal attack or an infiltration attack during the regular battles
- Automation
-- Character XP is dynamically handled by the game and web server.
--- No More characters.ini corruption
--- Instantaneous xp updates on the website
-- Vehicle kills/steals and territory changes are handled dynamically
--- After each battle the game server and web server automatically handle any change in territory and destroy vehicles that were lost. Any stolen vehicles are added, and if that stolen vehicle is from research that the team does not have, then the team gains that research.
- New Team Selection

I'm impressed by the list of changes and am looking forward to see how they work out. Are we still working with the traditional team system or will there be a drafting system like was discussed back during the semester?
